On and Off the Trail - 4/21/17

  • Some good news for the New England ultra runners that want to run UTMB.  Another local race has been added to the list of qualifying races.  Yesterday the Vermont 100 mile and 100k announced that bot races are qualifying races for UTMB.  The 100 mile is worth 6 points and the 100k is worth 4 points.  Check out the UTMB Qualifying Process.  The Vermont 100 mile is closed out for 2017, but if you want any inspiration to sign up for the 2018 event, check out 100: Head/Heart/Feet
  • Garmin is turning into a straight up Smart Watch.  It will be interesting to see where the technology goes from here.  What WON'T we be connected to?
  • If you are on Strava and want to see how your New England trail running competition stacks up, you might want to head over to the Trail Animals Running Club Page.  With over 300 members, you are bound to find your rival on there.

Although in NY, the Breakneck Point Trail Runs attracts a boatload of NE trail runners. Check out Mountain Peak Fitness’s report from this past weekend’s race.

Not sure if anyone has been following Rickey Gates as he runs, hikes and paddles across the US. Whether you have or haven't, you should listen to the Ultrarunner Podcast Interview with Rickey!

If you aren't running Sleepy Hollow next week...come run around a parking lot in Pawtucket, RI at the Fool's Mile.  There isn't much dirt and grass...but there will be plenty of BEER!

If you you cringe at the sight of pavement, you can take your beer running elsewhere and jump in the Burning Can  Check out this article from last year at Outside Magazine.

Welcome to this blog...

Because I like taking on projects that I have no time for and never follow through with, I decided to start a blog focused on Mountain, Ultra and Trail running/runners in and from New England.  My random vision for this will be a place to highlight races, trails to train and race on, local runners, product, race reports and anything else that comes about.

I will try to list races that are coming up and also some random news that is happening in our sport, not just in New England, but everywhere.

If anyone wants me to highlight their races, add a link, if you want to submit a race report or story, or if you just have any suggestions, please shoot me an email at bob [at] better-pace.com
